I started my legal career as a prosecutor, working as an Assistant State's Attorney. As a first year assistant, I did not charge people with offenses and did not make offers to resolve their case. I merely went to court, conveyed the offer that was written on the file, and left the decision to the accused or to their attorney.
While in that position, I reminded myself each day that my job was the "administration of justice," and not just to punish. Unfortunately, as a prosecutor, I was not allowed to give advice to those who were charged with a criminal offense, but were not represented by an attorney. I would routinely see an accused enter the courtroom, without the assistance of an attorney on their side, and accept a sentence that I was not certain they deserved. It was at that time that I decided that I could make a better contribution to the law and to those who were accused of crimes by becoming a criminal defense attorney. Over a decade later, it is a decision that I have never regretted.
I have become a compassionate and caring attorney for those individuals whose rights I protect. My single-minded goal is to secure the best outcome for those that I represent. Whether it be by efficient negotiation, effective defense strategies, or the unwavering willingness to take the matter to trial, the client is always my top priority.
Outside of practicing law, I enjoy spending time with my family and playing golf.
