Accused Hit-and-Run Driver Faces New Charges

A young man accused of leaving the scene of an accident is now facing new charges. The accident occurred in January and resulted in the death of an Illinois State University student. Because the victim died, the suspect is now charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a death and aggravated driving under the influence of marijuana.

The suspect admitted to drinking alcohol before the accident occurred and was discovered in a van by police later on during the day of the accident. The suspect could not explain why the windshield of the Toyota was shattered, which was supposedly involved in the accident.

He is now being held in jail on a $75,000 bond, of which $7,525 must be posted for him to be released. An attorney from Johnson Law Group is the suspect's lawyer and recently filed a motion requesting a lowered bond. This bond request, as well as the suspect's arraignment, will be reviewed in court on February 13.
